Installing Windows XP on aspire 4720

no hard disk detected

I just finished installing windows xp on my roomate's lappy ( acer aspire 4720 ). I bet some of you will say "ok? what's the big deal?". yup, it's not a big deal since millions or maybe billions of people can format a laptop and install fresh windows xp on SATA hard disk.

mini pendrive

I guess there are many tutorial on how to install windows xp on sata which i found many of them are using preinstalled sata driver cd. But what i want to share in this post is a bit different. I used a pendrive to install the sata driver. yup, it's a pendrive but why i could install the driver because the windows xp installation cd requested for floppy? the answer is mini Pendrive! This pendrive comes in with two drive which one of them is A:\ or a floppy. this is quite useful since it's hard to get those usb floppy or a diskette. This pendrive sure comes in handy.

what u need to do is to download sata driver for aspire 4720 here and extract the stuffs to A:\ without the folder. then follow this steps..

Steps:

1. Change the first boot device in BIOS to ur cd-rom (make sure u have plugged in the pendrive)

2. boot from windows xp cd, press F6 when the cd asks whether u want to install

3. then the cd will ask for the devices and u press S to specify addtional devices

4. choose the sata driver (something like this SATA AHCI 82801 HH/HM (ICH8 E/M).

5. ur done! Now ur installation should detect ur hard disk. :)

Attention: if i made any mistakes in this tutorial or lack of information, do email me kacip.crew@yahoo.com

* this is alternative method instead of creating ur own pre-installed sata driver for windows xp, y dun u just borrow this pendrive from ur friends as i borrowed it from my senior. gud luck ;)
